Long term ghost writing relation needed. Topics: food, sustainability... by gattoplatone: Hello everybody, I am... http://t.co/kQPnm9Lz es should be strong enough to seamlessly place into leading publications. It is essential that you can articulate an overriding argument/point that is well-supported/illustrated.Each article will encompass 2/3 source links each. The landing site for your work is going to be A-class and I can eventually state your name as Assistant Editor. This is the workflow I would like to set up: 1. I send you a source and a brief and a keyword (example follow) 2. You write a 400/500 story based on my brief and send me back the story within 24 hours 3. I validate the text and pay 10 to 30 USD each (this will depend by your bids). Payment will be delivered on a monthly basis and you will need to send me an invoice for each payment I would like to make this collaboration permanent for at least one year, with an average rate of 2 stories per week. If this sounds interesting offer for you, please include to your bid (as a private message) a story based on the brief below (I need to evaluate your style and commitment...). No bids will be taken into consideration without the attached story. Here is the brief example: Source: http://bit.ly/Zjz3Zf Keyword: mad cow (at least 5 recurrences for a 500 word story) Brief: Mad cow disease has been around for almost 10 years (some figures needed). Authorities told us more and more that the emergency is over, but as this news prove, we are far from having defeated it. The point is that we are much more exposed to food related epidemic risks than what we are told. WHO actually lack of a real long term strategyand pandemic risks are just under the corner (mention the avian flu and the Spanish flu). Roger that? :-) So, happy bidding buddies! paolo PS: the one who will win this project will of course receive 30 USD for his attached story Link - Trackbacks

IOSH, IOSH appoints new chief executive

Pandemic flu on twitter - Thu, 12/13/2012 - 18:08
IOSH appoints new chief executive: http://t.co/RRn7iChw The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) has announced the appointment of Jan Chmiel as chief executive. Currently CEO of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), Jan will succeed outgoing chief executive Rob Strange OBE in April. Jan said: “I look forward to working with all IOSH members and staff in taking the organisation forward and delivering on its ambitious future strategy. It’s an exciting time to be joining this successful team as IOSH is best placed to address the challenges of improving occupational safety and health in a changing world.” IOSH announced in March that Rob would step down after 12 years in charge. It has been a hugely successful period in the Institution’s history that has seen its membership increase to more than 40,000 and the award of a Royal charter. Rob said: “I have known Jan since he became chief executive of IEMA and have a very great respect for him and for his achievements and experience. I have every confidence that the excellent growth and progress IOSH has made during my tenure as CEO will continue under Jan’s leadership.” Rob leaves to take on a portfolio of trustee and non-executive roles and pursue interests outside of work. “It has been an honour and a privilege to spend 12 years as chief executive of IOSH, and I am proud of all we have achieved together over that period of time,” he said. “I now look forward to working with Jan over the coming months to ensure a smooth and efficient hand-over.” IOSH Board of Trustees chair Keith Underhill said: “I would like to thank Rob for what he has achieved during his tenure, in particular raising the profile of IOSH and increasing our membership to the level it is today. “I am looking forward to working with Jan, who has demonstrated that he is an inspirational leader. I am sure he will drive our strategy forward so the organisation and our members achieve greater recognition.” More articles from IOSH: New guidance to help bosses better protect their workforces (6th December 2012)Research commissioned by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) has found a way to help organisations make their health and safety rules and procedures more relevant to the work they do and the staff they protect. From Newsletter Stories IOSH calls for action on work-related traffic accidents (23rd November 2012)The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) has stated that work-related road traffic accidents should be reported by employers to help cut the number of people killed or injured while driving for work.

Researchers seek lifelong vaccine for flu

Pandemic flu on twitter - Thu, 12/13/2012 - 11:26
#Stanford conducting new clinical trial for long-lasting #flu #vaccine. http://t.co/Nmj7tnJ3 The very young or very old, or anyone with a weakened immune system, are more likely to become infected, and they're more likely to suffer severe symptoms that can lead to hospitalization or death. [...] there always lingers the danger of a flu pandemic, like the 2009 swine flu outbreak, with a new strain suddenly appearing that leaves almost everyone vulnerable. A flu vaccine has been available since the 1950s, and in 1960 the U.S. surgeon general recommended for the first time annual immunization for older adults, defined as anyone over age 64, along with pregnant women and people with certain medical conditions that weakened their immune system. Diminishing returnsStudies also have shown that for most people, their immune response to the vaccine - meaning how well the vaccine primes their body to fight off the flu - starts falling off in their mid-30s. The modern vaccine provides protection by exposing people to tiny bits from three strains of influenza virus, which triggers the body's immune system to start developing antibodies that will fight those specific strains. Even if we were able to make an antibody for that region, the virus would have replicated before the antibody could get in there and attack. [...] scientists develop a way to immunize people against all strains of influenza, a need persists to increase the effectiveness of the vaccine currently available. In just the last year, two new flu vaccine mechanisms became available: an intradermal shot that is injected close to the surface of the skin, and a high-dose vaccine that may improve the immune response in older people. [...] those improvements are relatively subtle and fall far short of the larger goals of making a powerful immunization that provides protection to the vast majority of people for a wide variety of strains, and won't need to be re-administered every flu season. In addition to adjuvants, scientists are looking at something called DNA vaccines, which include DNA that instruct the body to make the hemagglutinin protein itself, instead of having it inserted pre-made. The idea is that the so-called homemade protein will inspire the body to produce not only antibodies to target that protein, but also increase the body's production of other immune cells that aren't flu-specific., The very young or very old, or anyone with a weakened immune system, are more likely to become infected, and they're more likely to suffer severe symptoms that can lead to hospitalization or death. Novel Framework for Assessing Epidemiologic Effects of Influenza Epidemics and Pandemics - - Emerging Infectious Disease journal - CDC

Pandemic flu on twitter - Thu, 12/13/2012 - 09:22
Novel Framework for Assessing Epidemiologic Effects of Influenza Epidemics and Pandemics http://t.co/em32zMAZ The effects of influenza on a population are attributable to the clinical severity of illness and the number of persons infected, which can vary greatly between seasons or pandemics. To create a systematic framework for assessing the public health effects of an emerging pandemic, we reviewed data from past influenza seasons and pandemics to characterize severity and transmissibility (based on ranges of these measures in the United States) and outlined a formal assessment of the potential effects of a novel virus. The assessment was divided into 2 periods. Because early in a pandemic, measurement of severity and transmissibility is uncertain, we used a broad dichotomous scale in the initial assessment to divide the range of historic values. In the refined assessment, as more data became available, we categorized those values more precisely. By organizing and prioritizing data collection, this approach may inform an evidence-based assessment of pandemic effects and guide decision making. Link - Trackbacks

FLU NEWS SCAN: Flu virus shedding, pandemic prevention approaches http://t.co/vZayUglY Study finds substantial flu virus shedding even without symptoms In a German study, 30% of patients' tested positive for flu the day before symptoms developed, and asymptomatic patients had about the same viral loads as sick patients, according to a report yesterday in PLoS One. Investigators conducted a prospective household study using data from 2007 to 2011 in Berlin and Munich. They analyzed data from 122 index patients and 320 household contacts, of whom 67 became secondary flu case-patients. Of the 189 case-patients, 12 had seasonal H1N1 flu, 19 had H3N2, 98 had pandemic 2009 H1N1, and 60 had influenza B. Nine (14%) of 65 unvaccinated secondary case-patients—all adults—were asymptomatic. Viral loads in patients' nasal specimens peaked on day 1, 2, or 3 for all flu strains, then declined steadily till days 7 through 9. On the day before symptom onset, 12 of 40 specimens (30%) were positive. Viral load in six asymptomatic patients was similar to that in those having symptoms. Infectiousness, as measured by viral culture, lasted 4 to 6 days after symptom onset, and viral load did not seem to be influenced by antiviral therapy, age, or vaccination status, the team found. They conclude, "Asymptomatic/subclinical infections occur infrequently, but may be associated with substantial amounts of viral Link - Trackbacks
