N.C. has worst flu season in decade; 14 dead so far http://t.co/q91xCxoo Fri Dec 28, 2012 By Venita Jenkins Staff writer North Carolina is seeing its highest number of flu cases in a decade, including 14 deaths so far this season, state health officials say. Eleven of the deaths were people older than 65, according to the state Department of Health and Human Services. "It is very unusual for us to see this many deaths so early in the flu season," state Health Director Laura Gerald said in a statement. "This year's vaccine is well-matched to the strains of flu we are seeing in North Carolina, so we strongly recommend that anyone over 6 months old be vaccinated." Continued: Link - Trackbacks

Deadly Virus (The Trailer)

Pandemic flu on twitter - Fri, 12/28/2012 - 18:07
Deadly Virus (The Trailer) http://t.co/WMrUN6h9 The author says it all on the book cover: "There are things in life that are intrinsic. One of them is to fight for justice and truth. But what if the truth was actually the fruit of terrible secrets and dreadful lies?" What we read here is a powerful thriller that tries to reveal the truth behind the Swine Flu outbreak. Even though it is a work of fiction, the book was inspired by a real story and is based on historical facts. This certainly is an exciting story mixing mystery, conspiracy and history. The Story Jean-Baptiste Duprés was a French Investigative Journalist working in Mexico when the outbreak of the Swine Flu virus began in the country. On 25th April 2009, he decided to give up his work on a high-level drug mexican cartel to start an investigation on the new deadly virus. Duprés' investigation quickly led him into an unbelievable conspiracy and despite the risks, he eventually discovered what really lies beneath the official truth about H1N1... How far were the pharmaceutical companies, the Spanish Crown, or the Vatican actually involved? This is his story... The Historical Context April 2009. An outbreak of a new strain of influenza commonly referred to as "Swine Flu" infects people in Mexico and other parts of the world. Initial reports suggest that the outbreak started in February due to farming practices at a pig farm. The new strain is identified as a combination of several different strains of Influenzavirus A, subtype H1N1, including separate strains of this subtype circulating in humans and in pigs. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) express serious concerns that the new strain, which transmits between humans and has had a high mortality rate in the Mexican cases, has the potential to become an influenza pandemic. In the News... "The United States Government has reported seven confirmed human cases of Swine Influenza A/H1N1 in the USA. [...] In the Federal District of Mexico, surveillance began picking up cases starting 18 March. The number of cases has risen steadily through April and as of 23 April there are now more than 854 cases of pneumonia from the capital. Of those, 59 have died." (World Health Organization, 24 April 2009) "The World Health Organization raised the swine flu alert Thursday to its highest level, saying the H1N1 virus has spread to enough countries to be considered a global pandemic. [...] As of Thursday, the virus had spread to 74 countries, the health agency said. There were 28,774 confirmed cases and 144 deaths. [...] The virus is not stoppable." (CNN, 11 June 2009) "On August 10, the WHO Director-General Dr Margaret Chan announced that the H1N1 influenza event has moved into the post-pandemic period. The influenza situation update will no longer be posted on the Disease Outbreak News website." (World Health Organization, 10 September 2010) "Doctors and patients are being misled about the effectiveness of some drugs because negative trial results are not published, experts have warned. Pharmaceutical companies should be forced to publish all data, not just positive findings." (British Medical Journal, 12 October 2010) Link - Trackbacks
